This calculator can be used to make Solid Soaps or Liquid Soaps
Calculations take into account the typical impurities percentage found in NaOH and KOH supplies.

Enter the amount of each base oil and other ingredients in your recipe below.
Our Lye Calculator will compute the correct amount of alkali and minimum amount of water you need to use to make soap. Then use our Recipe Resizer on the results page to make the right amount of soap you need for your chosen mold size and shape.
Water calculations are as per the "Failor" method for solid and for liquid soaps (they are different).
Liquid soapmakers: Select "Potassium hydroxide" option. For a more guided experience with more process options, try our SBM Crafters Advanced Soap Calculator.
Accuracy of this calculator has been verified to the SAP values as provided by our oils suppliers.
